On September 24, 2024, a seminar organized by the Culture Information Systems Centre was held in the house of Raina and Aspazijas (Baznīcas iela 30, Riga) as part of the EU co-financed project "Library Bridges: Promoting the Integration and Inclusion of Third-Country Nationals in Europe Using Libraries and Local Partnerships" (LIBRI) .

The event was attended by representatives of nine public libraries of Latvian municipalities and the Society Integration Fund, as well as the working group of the Culture Information Systems Centre project. The seminar discussed the organizational issues of the LIBRI project, examined the conditions for local partnerships and strategies to be developed in the project, and listened to the experiences of libraries in the integration activities already carried out.

The seminar had the opportunity to get acquainted with the SIF presentation on the integration of third-country nationals. At the seminar, all participants gained inspiration and confidence to achieve the project's goal by May 2026 - to develop and implement integration strategies and their implementation plans, which provide for the successful inclusion of third-country nationals in society at the regional level and in the local community using library services.

From May 2024 to May 2026, the Centre, as a partner, is implementing cooperation in the European Union-supported project "Library Bridges: Promoting the Integration and Inclusion of Third-Country Nationals in Europe through Libraries and Local Partnerships" (LIBRI AMIF-2023-TF2-AG-CALL- AMIF) administered by the non-governmental organization Bibliothèques Sans Frontières (France) in collaboration with the National Association of Hospitality Cities and Territories (Association Nationale Des Villes Et Territoires Accueilants, France) and with partners - Bibliothèques Sans Frontières Italia (Italy), Center for Cultural Information Systems, Information public development fund (Fundacja Rozwoju Spoleczenstwa Informacyjnego, Poland), Association of Future Communities (Asociata Comunitatile Viitorului, Romania) and European Bureau of Library, Information and Documentation Associations (The Netherlands).

The purpose of the project: to develop and implement an integration strategy and plan that provides for the successful integration of third-country nationals into society at the regional level and in the local community through library services:

  • to provide third-country nationals with access to adapted library resources and services that support their integration into local communities
  • promote the development of local strategies and partnerships that support integration and the inclusion of third-country nationals

Expected results:

  • mapping of support activities for initiatives in libraries/other local institutions (website creation);
  • creation of content - guides, online tools - for librarians to help in the implementation of intercultural communication;
  • compilation and dissemination of good practice examples related to the integration of third-country nationals;
  • Deployment of methodology and strategy and distribution of content on a specially developed platform (E-PANEMA).
