In the Latvian National Terminology Portal Termini.gov.lv, where it is possible freely search and obtain information about terms and their representation in other languages, a new collection "Online Dictionary of Educational Terms" has been created with 3000 pages with explanations and translations of terms in English, German, French and in Russian. The maintenance of the Termini.gov.lv portal is technically ensured by the Culture Information Systems Centre, and it was created as a part of the project "Machine Translation" with the support of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and in cooperation with the "Tilde" society, the State Language Center, the Latvian Language Agency and the Latvian Academy of Sciences .
The new collection has been developed by a collective of authors, which is made up of a group of researchers from the University of Liepāja, the University of Latvia and Riga Stradins University under the leadership of Professor Diana Laiveniece, commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Science in the ESF project "Establishment of the Education Quality Monitoring System" (2021-2023). The selection of dictionary terms is based on the coverage of the conceptual system of the industry in four blocks: education policy and management or the institutional aspect, educational actors or the personality aspect, educational science or the academic aspect, pedagogy or the aspect of educational practice. Definitions may be accompanied by examples of usage, sources used, and references to other terms. During the development of the dictionary, the team of authors collaborated and consulted with experts of the Ministry of Education and Science and the Terminology Commission of the Latvian Academy of Sciences (LZA).
