Two million entries have already been created in the National Archives of Latvia (NAL) public search engine MekleLNA in four years.

Ginta Orinska-Spirģe, Head of NAL Development planning Unit, welcomes the result achieved: "Two million records confirm that the NAL is working to make the archive directory system digitally accessible to everyone. Special pleasure that we enjoyed the first million just over a year ago. I think this dynamic delights not just the archivist family, but our clients. The challenge for the future of the NAL is to continue refining and supplementing the NAL seeker until there are records of all the documents we hold, which currently exceed 23 million units of storage.”

The search engine was introduced in February 2020 and provides access to the Joint State Archives Information System, which contains information regarding the funds, files and documents held in the archives of the National Archives of Latvia (State Archives of Latvia, State Historical Archives of Latvia, State Archives of Personnel Documents, Regional State Archives). The operation of the Joint State Archives Information System shall be technically ensured by the Culture Information Systems Centre.

A User Assistant has also been prepared for easier use of the tool, which is available on the NAL homepage – Search LNA User Assistant.
